Rwandan - Rambagirakawa Natural A1
Rwandan - Rambagirakawa Natural A1
Rambagirakawa—meaning 'professional women owning and growing coffee trees'—lives up to its name. Since 2018, these women have built something remarkable together, growing their cooperative to over 200 members strong. Part of the larger Dukundekawa Musasa cooperative (1,400 members, including 289 women), Rambagirakawa represents the power of women-led coffee farming in Rwanda's mountainous regions.
Between harvests, they craft intricate traditional Rwandan baskets, creating vital income during the off-season. Through their partnership with Days for Girls, an NGO providing materials and sewing machines, these coffee farmers also give back to their community by sewing feminine hygiene kits for girls across their remote, mountainous area.
The premiums you pay for this coffee—channeled through Artisan Coffee Imports—go directly to work. Recently, the cooperative used these funds to acquire new land planted with coffee trees, ensuring that the legacy of Rambagirakawa women's coffee will grow even richer in the seasons ahead.
